The Nature journals have a very long and proud history of publishing some of the most high-quality and impactful research in the world. The portfolio now contains almost 50 journals, covering a wide range of subject areas. Nature also employs over 250 full-time editors. Each of these editors is passionate about supporting researchers, to help them to do and to communicate the research that makes the news and advances discovery.

In this talk, Alison Mitchell, PhD – who has worked on the Nature titles for over 20 years – will take you behind the scenes at the Nature journals. The talk will be covering the following topics:

  • What are the editors looking for in a research paper, and what makes a good Nature paper?
  • How do the editors try to support researchers beyond the publishing process?
  • What innovations and experiments are the Nature journals doing to improve the process of research and research communication?
  • How do they decide what new Nature journals to launch and what is the impact on researchers?
