The undergraduate orientation sessions "Knowledge Discovery in the Library and Beyond 2011" were conducted between July and September 2011. A total of 944 students attended the sessions. Among the participants, 346 took a challenging library quiz and they automatically entered into a lucky draw for three iPod Shuffles.

Publishing papers in academic journals is becoming increasingly important for all academics, and the Library understands researchers' need to keep up-to-date with the publishing world. We regularly invite speakers from renowned publishers to deliver workshops for PolyU researchers.
The latest workshop of this kind "Publishing in Academic Journals – Tips to help you succeed" was held on 26 October 2011 in the Library. It was well received and attracted more than 30 PolyU academic and research staff members as well as postgraduate students. Ms Lyndsey Dixon, Publisher at Taylor & Francis Asia Pacific, gave an interesting presentation on academic publishing. Two PolyU editors Dr Ng Guat Tin (Assistant Professor, APSS) & Dr Kevin Li (Associate Professor, LMS) also shared tips on getting published and answered questions from participants.
Ms Dixon's presentation aimed at academics, researchers and postgraduate students who are new to the complex world of getting published in international peer-reviewed journals. How to submit a paper to a journal and peer review process were explained. Especially, participants shared valuable advice on these issues:
How to present a manuscript
How to select the correct journal for submission of a manuscript
How to obtain help with editing
How to submit a manuscript
How to promote an article
How to optimize citations to an article
For those who were unable to participate, please visit Taylor & Francis' website to view some resources for authors.
