• Farewell to University Librarian
  
  

In mid December, we bid farewell to Mr Steve O'Connor, the University Librarian from 2007-2011. Steve’s vision and leadership has left a deep impact on the Library and the University by initiating and leading a number of projects including Scenario Planning, Library Revitalization, Space Contingency Plan, Discovery Service (i.e. OneSearch), PolyU Institutional Repository, the Extended Common Orientation Programme, READ@PolyU and LibCafe@PolyU as well as enhancing the marketing and promotion effort of the Library. These innovative initiatives have shaped the Library into the University’s learning hub, extending our enhanced services and resources to the PolyU community.

Steve is taking up consultancy work in Australia. Our heartfelt thanks go to him for his great contribution and we all wish him well in his future endeavors.

• Staff Retirement – Mr Simon Lee Tai Lok
  

  Recipient of Outstanding Disabled Employee (1993 & 1998)

  
  

Simon retired on 4 November 2011 after working in the Library for over 20 years.  Although visually challenged, Simon excelled in his many varied duties. He was a dedicated and loyal staff member of the Library.  His role in serving and inspiring users and co-workers was unique and his performance was outstanding.   He won the Outstanding Disabled Employee of the Year by the Hong Kong Lions Club in conjunction with the Hong Kong Society of the Blind (1993) and the Labour Department's Award for Outstanding Disabled Employee (1998).



During the years he worked in the Library, Simon treasured most the relationship with his colleagues, who were always willing to help him.  He plans to do some voluntary work as part of his retirement life.  May we all wish him a healthy and happy life ahead!

• Recipients of Long Service Award
  
  

A total of 19 Library staff will receive the Long Service Award at the University's Award Ceremony on 20 January 2012 in recognition of their long and dedicated service to the University. Of the 19 Award Recipients, 7 staff have served the Library for 15 years, 8 have served for 20 years, 2 for 25 years , 1 for 30 years and 1 for 35 years. The Library is very grateful for their dedicated service and contribution over the past years.
