Library's Online AV Resources - Learn through Watching & Listening

Listening to audiobooks and watching videos for formal and informal learning have become more and more popular with the proliferation of digital and mobile technologies. Online AV resources also provide useful materials for research and teaching, in addition to other materials.

 

The Library has subscribed to a wide range of online audio and video resources in different disciplines and you may access to them even you are off-campus simply with your NetID and NetPassword: 

Featured Online Audiobook Collections:

 

  • HyRead
    This collection provides around 200 audiobooks in a variety of subjects, including language learning books for English, Japanese and Korean. This guide provides steps on how to check out audiobooks on this platform.

     
  • iRead eBook
    This collection provides over 200 audiobooks for learning languages like English, French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.

Locating Library Resources from Off Campus

Write Your Own Mini-Memoir

What touchstone event, or turning point, occurred in your childhood and that you still remember to this day?

Write a 500-word account of this event from your point of view...and submit for a chance to win great prizes.

Taking inspiration from Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood, submissions which are accompanied by an original illustration will receive a bonus point.

Special Loan Arrangements for PolyU Students and Staff During Library Closure

As the Library building will be closed until further notice, with effect from 6 Dec 2019, the Library will set up a temporary service point for book pick up and return next to the Hall Reception Counter of the Homantin Halls of Residence.

Eligible users: PolyU students and staff with valid PolyU ID card only

 

Service Hours: 9am - 5pm (Mon - Fri) excluding public holidays


Address: Next to Hall Reception Counter, G/F, PolyU Student Halls of Residence, 15 Fat Kwong Street, Homantin

HKALL – Book Pick-up
With the above temporary service point, HKALL requesting service is now resumed. Eligible users can request books from other UGC-funded libraries via HKALL and pick up at the temporary service point within five days upon receiving Library email notification. 
 
Book Return
Users can return books borrowed from PolyU Library and HKALL at this temporary service point. 



 

Extended Due Date for All Library Items Checked Out Before 11 Nov 2019

The due date of Library items borrowed from the PolyU Library before 11 Nov 2019 has been extended to 20 Jan 2020 (or up to the expiry date of your PolyU ID card / Library Card). No overdue fines will be incurred for items due during the period of Library closure. This applies to all books (incl. HKALL, Interlibrary Loan and Reserve Books), AV-items, and i-Space equipment.

 

 
Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services (ILL&DDS)
Requests for articles and book chapters via Document Delivery Service will remain normal but fulfilment for some of them may be affected. 

Interlibrary Loan requests for books, conference proceedings, theses, and patents will be suspended until the Library reopens.  Users who borrowed books (overseas & local) using the Interlibrary Loan service can return them at the Library after its reopens.

In view of the special circumstances, the Library has introduced the following measures and services to support your research, learning and teaching needs:

Extended Due Date for Library Items Checked Out Before 11 Nov 2019

The due date of Library items borrowed from PolyU Library before 11 Nov 2019 has now been extended to 20 Jan 2020 (or up to the expiry date of your PolyU ID card / Library Card). No overdue fines will be incurred for items due during the period of Library closure. This applies to all books (incl. HKALL and Reserve Books), AV-items, and i-Space equipment.
 

Information Consultancy with Faculty Librarians via Skype
Faculty Librarians will offer information/research consultation for current PolyU staff and students via Skype during Library closure. Please email your Faculty Librarians to set up an appointment. 
 
Library Online Guides and Workshop Handouts
You may refer to the various Library Guides such as finding journal articlesEndnote and a series of Subject Guides created by your Faculty Librarian. In addition, full handouts for all workshops planned for this semester will be made available from 6 December 2019. You can download via the Workshop Handout page for your self-learning.
