Library Special Arrangements during Revision & Examination period (19 Apr – 16 May 2014)

1. Reading areas in the Library will be patrolled at intervals and unattended belongings will be removed. Please be considerate, and vacate your seat once you have finished.

2. In addition to the 24-hour Study Centre in Room L001, the Quiet Study Room in L003 on G/F which provides over 320 seats will also be opened 24 hours during the period. Please access via the Core E entrance after Library closes.

3.Silence must be observed in the Library. Noisy users may be asked to leave the Library.

4.For the REC Research Carrels, the booking sessions will be increased to five per day. Eligible users can reserve a session one day in advance via PolyU iBooking System.

Ms Ketty Pucci-Sisti Maisonrouge will give a talk on her newly published title, "The Luxury Alchemist", which received the International Award at the 18th Annual Literary Festival, La Forêt des Livres in the Loire Valley, France.

About the speaker

Ms Maisonrouge is the founder of KM & Co., which specializes in luxury innovation by assisting luxury firms and start-ups in branding, financing, and long-term strategies. She is an adjunct professor at Columbia Business School and has been the president of the Luxury Education Foundation since 2004. She was awarded the titles of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite and Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur (in 2009) by the French government.

About the seminar

Two topics will be presented :

1. Science publishing – Recent trends and implications for research

New opportunities for researchers to collaborate and share research, as well as to manage their research portfolio will be addressed. An introduction and overview to open access publishing and how Elsevier is working together with the research community will be given.

2. Innovation in science publishing and trends in open access and research data

This part of the seminar will discuss how tools, such as Mendeley, is providing new opportunities for researchers to collaborate and share research. An update of how Elsevier is working with open access publishing and the issue of sharing of research data will be given.

About the speaker

Dr Anders Karlsson is the Vice President, Global Academic Relations, at Elsevier. He works in a global team engaging with key academic and governmental stakeholders to support and strengthen their research and innovation capabilities. Dr Karlsson also holds an advisory position at the Institute of Academic Initiatives at Osaka University, Japan.
