Not sure how to get your next book published by a top publisher? Or are you a first time author, thinking of publishing your first book?

This talk will guide you through everything you need to know to get your first, or next, academic book published. To help you succeed, you will get tips from both Publisher and Author’s point of view. You will also get advice on which pitfalls to avoid and making use of additional resources to guide you whilst writing.

We are also very privileged to have two authors from PolyU joining our session – Prof. Peter P. Yuen and Dr. Dennis Tay. Both of them are recent Routledge authors and they will share their experiences in book publishing with Routledge.

About the Speaker

Katie Peace is the Senior Books Commissioning Editor for Routledge in Asia. She manages a team of editors in the Routledge Singapore office and is responsible for the commissioning of all types of book content in Asia. With more than 15 years’ experience in the publishing industry globally, she has insights into the academic journals and books publishing processes and specialises in advising and guiding authors to produce the best publishing output. Her career has spanned every type of publishing from academic journals and books to magazines, textbook publishing and custom publishing as well as digital and online content. She is happy to share her knowledge with early career researchers or experienced academics looking to publish their first (or next) book.

Peter P. Yuen is Dean of the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE) and a Professor in the Department of Management and Marketing of PolyU. His research involves public policy formulation and evaluation, and health services management. He is an Editor of Public Administration and Policy and an Editorial Committee member of Asia Pacific Journal of Health Management. Prof. Yuen publishes extensively and his latest monograph is under contract with Routledge: Financing Long Term Care in China.

Prof. Yuen received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Master in Business Administration degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his PhD in Health Economics from the University of Birmingham.

Dennis Tay is Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at PolyU. His research covers four overlapping areas: cognitive linguistics, metaphor theory, mental healthcare communication, and the statistical modeling of discourse processes and products. He has published widely including a monograph with John Benjamins and an edited volume with Palgrave. He has a monograph publishing with Routledge in November 2018: Time Series Analysis of Discourse: Method and Case Studies, and also an edited book with Routledge under contract: Approaches to Specialized Genres.

Dr. Tay received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and his Masters in Language Studies at the National University of Singapore, and his PhD in linguistics at the University of Otago, New Zealand.

André Alexis brings us this fascinating fable of humanity, exploring what happens when fifteen dogs are granted the power of human thought. The gods watch with amusement from above and wager a high-stakes bet—will at least one of the dogs die happy?

[Library Seminar] Discover 3D Human Anatomy Medical Platforms

This seminar will introduce and demonstrate two online anatomy reference tools subscribed by the Library: Anatomy & Physiology Online and 3D Anatomy for Speech Language Pathology. Both tools provide high quality 3D images and animations on human anatomy, while the latter one focuses on the anatomy of the head and neck. The two anatomy tools offer good image references that will help students from nursing, rehabilitation science, speech therapy and biomedical engineering better understand the mechanisms and functions of human body. The speaker will also elaborate on how these tools can support teaching at PolyU.
