Special Arrangements for Library Closure

In view of the special circumstances, the Library has introduced the following measures and services to support your research, learning and teaching needs:

Extended Due Date for Library Items Checked Out Before 11 Nov 2019

The due date of Library items borrowed from PolyU Library before 11 Nov 2019 has now been extended to 20 Jan 2020 (or up to the expiry date of your PolyU ID card / Library Card). No overdue fines will be incurred for items due during the period of Library closure. This applies to all books (incl. HKALL and Reserve Books), AV-items, and i-Space equipment.

Information Consultancy with Faculty Librarians via Skype
Faculty Librarians will offer information/research consultation for current PolyU staff and students via Skype during Library closure. Please email your Faculty Librarians to set up an appointment.

Library Online Guides and Workshop Handouts
You may refer to the various Library Guides such as finding journal articles, Endnote and a series of Subject Guides created by your Faculty Librarian. In addition, full handouts for all workshops planned for this semester will be made available from 6 December 2019. You can download via the Workshop Handout page for your self-learning.

During the Library closure, you can still contact us via the following methods:

·       Email to your Faculty Librarian for subject-specific enquiries

*WhatsApp service will not be available during this period.

As the current situation is constantly evolving, the Library will consider making necessary adjustments to accommodate our users. Users are advised to check the Library Website for latest updates on Library Services.

Drinks in spill-proof containers are now allowed in the Library!

To create a more relaxing environment, the Library implements a new drink policy with effect from 8 November 2019. Non-alcoholic drinks in spill-proof containers are now permitted in all study areas of the Library. For details, please refer to the Library Food & Drink Policy.

Located in the Group Study Zone 1 (G/F) of the Library, the Stretching Corner can help you recharge and in turn, boost your attention span and learning performance through these facilities:

Videos on stress relief
Soothing music
Comfortable sofas for relaxing and resting

^#All students and staff are welcome to visit the Stretching Corner. No reservation is required. Please be considerate, share and enjoy the relaxing space with one another, keep clean, and put the headphone back to its original position after use.

Stretching Exercise with VR and AI Games

Venue: Stretching Corner
The Games include Archery in Virtual Reality, pose matching challenge by Move Mirror, etc.
First come, first served. No registration is needed.

Library closing hours 4 - 10 Nov 2019

Library will maintain regular hours and close at 11pm from 4 Nov (Mon) to 8 Nov 2019 (Fri). Considering transportation issues, the Library will close at 9pm on 9 Nov (Sat) & 10 Nov 2019 (Sun).

Victoria Babbit is the Director of Researcher Development and Outreach at Taylor & Francis. Victoria joined Taylor & Francis in 2008 and throughout the past decade has supported societies, editors and authors in the region as they navigate the rapidly changing publishing landscape. In collaboration with the library community and academic institutions, she is actively engaged in building capacity and ensuring publishing success through courses and workshops for early career researchers. Prior to joining Taylor & Francis, Victoria pursued a PhD in Geography, focusing on migration, at the University of Washington in Seattle.

This year, the Library adopts LibQUAL+, an international web-based survey administered by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) of the United States, which has been used by 1300+ libraries around the world.
