Launching of Online Printing Submission System

The Library is pleased to announce the launch of its new Online Printing Submission System (OPSS).  From now on, PolyU students and staff have to submit their print requests of large-format poster through the OPSS. The print charge will be calculated immediately after selecting the preferred printing parameters such as page size, paper type and media.  When the printout is completed, you can collect the printed document and settle the payment at the Technical Support Desk in i-Space, 4/F North Wing.

[Library Online Course] Using EndNote – Join Now!

The Library has launched an online course for using EndNote, a reference management tool to help you cite and manage references in your assignment or research papers. Join the course to learn the key features about EndNote, including how to insert references from different sources and how to cite references in Word document.

This online course consists of 8 modules and each takes about 20 mins to complete. You will receive an e-certificate upon completion of the first 5 mandatory modules.

Mandatory Modules:

  • Module 1 – Introduction
  • Module 2 – Get started with EndNote
  • Module 3 – Add references to EndNote
  • Module 4 – Insert and edit citations in MS Word
  • Module 5 – Save your reference library

Optional Modules:

  • Module 6 – Group your references
  • Module 7 – Remove duplicate references
  • Module 8 – Share references

Library Reopens All Floors on 7 Sep 2020

From 7 Sep 2020, the Library will reopen all floors to PolyU students, staff, Graduate and Special Borrower Library Card holders. Access to PolyU Library for JULAC Library Card holders is temporarily suspended until further notice. 
 
Opening hours effective 7 Sep 2020 until 22 Nov 2020  
Mondays to Saturdays: 8:30 am to 10 pm 
Sundays:12:00 noon to 9 pm 
Public Holidays:
See General Holiday Hours 

After the Library reopens, i-Booking for computers, designated database workstations and  i-Space facilities will resume for eligible users. (Two Bloomberg workstations currently on P/F will be relocated back to 4/F i-Space) 
 
The 24-Hour Study Centre (G/F) will remain closed until further notice, while the following areas and facilities have reopened to users starting from 19 Oct 2020: 

  • Group rooms (G/F and 3/F) 
  • Group study booths in i-Space (4/F North Wing) 
  • Learning Lab 1 and 2 (3/F South Wing) 

Do also take note of renovation works taking place in the Library during this period.  

All users are required to wear a mask properly when in the Library. Please do not move the tables and chairs around so as to keep a safe social distance 

Renewal and new application for Graduate Library Cards will resume on 7 Sep 2020.  

Valid Library Card holders are required to sign the University’s health declaration upon their first-time access via the PolyU campus turnstiles. After a Library Card is renewed or replaced, the Card Holder will be required to sign the health declaration again. 

Graduate and Special Borrower Card holders
The Library has already extended the validity of Graduate and Special Borrower Library Cards for 48 days from their original expiry dates (on or after 21 Jul 2020) because of the inaccessible period between 21 Jul and 6 Sep 2020.

For items whose due date falls within the inaccessible period between 21 Jul and 6 Sep 2020, please return them on or before 21 Sep 2020 otherwise fines will be incurred. Library items can be returned via the Library’s 24-hour Book Drop located outside the campus turnstiles on Podium Level (near public footbridge towards Exit A Hung Hom MTR Station) when the Library is closed.

Extension of Due Dates

The Library have extended all loans with due dates from 15 Jul 2020, except the recalled items, short-loan items (i.e. Reserve books and AV Collection items), and the non-PolyU books (i.e. HKALL and ILL books). The extended due date of applicable loans and renewals:

Loans and renewals by academic, research & administrative staff, and postgraduate students: extended to the new term loan due date, i.e. 11 Jan 2021, or the expiry date of the borrower’s current status whichever is earlier.

Loans and renewals by undergraduate students and other borrowers: extended to 30 Sep 2020, or the expiry date of the borrower’s current status whichever is earlier.

All loans are subject to recall. Borrowers should return loans by due date as far as possible. Late return will be liable to overdue fine. Please login at https://www.lib.polyu.edu.hk/my-record to check the latest due date of your borrowed item(s). 

You may return Library items to the book drop situated below the Loan & Return Counter at Library P/F during Library opening hours, or via the book drop located outside the campus turnstiles on Podium Level (near public footbridge towards Exit A Hung Hom MTR Station) when the Library is closed.

If you are unable to return borrowed items in person, the Library may accept other means of delivery, e.g. by post or by courier. Please contact us by email at lbcir@polyu.edu.hk should you need further assistance on returning of items.

[Library Webinar] Cochrane Library – Literature Searching and Tips to Support Systematic Reviews

The Cochrane Library is an electronic collection designed to supply high quality, independent evidence in health care.

In this webinar, you will be guided through the Cochrane Library platform to get familiar with its interface and essential features. Some latest enhancements and updates, including the new PICO search, will be introduced.

Topics will be covered:

  • Content available in Cochrane Library and its compositions
  • How to get around in the platform
  • What’s new in Cochrane
  • Using PICO Search to support EBM research
  • How to set up alerts and find help

Ms Lydia Ngai, the Faculty Librarian of Health and Social Sciences will also share tips on retrieving Systematic Reviews using other health-related databases subscribed by PolyU Library.

Alternative quiet study areas are now available to students and Library users on campus during the LER project!

Library Alternative Quiet Study Areas

Location: S403 and Z302
Duration: 3 Aug 2020 to 31 Aug 2023
Time: 8:30a.m to 11:30a.m. (Mon to Sat)

Students and Library users may opt to use the above alternative study areas for quiet study during the course of the construction works, while regular Library services are maintained throughout the project.
