The PolyU Library is pleased to welcome Dr Shirley Chiu-wing Wong as our new University Librarian.
Dr Wong has extensive Library professional and administrative experience. She had worked at The Chinese University of Hong Kong Library for many years and had responsibility there for library user services, mandatory information literacy assessment, the library extension project, and the development of learning commons and research commons.
As University Librarian, Dr Wong provides innovative and energetic vision, leadership and direction to the Library in support of the University’s strategic plan. She is responsible for the overall management and development of the library resources, fostering staff growth and professional development. Under the leadership of Dr Wong, the Library is well positioned to pursue its strategic goals, and the vision to become the University’s “Learning Hub”.
Dr Wong has served in leadership roles with professional associations. She is on the Executive Board of the Copyright and other Legal Matters Committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, and chairs the Learning Strategies Committee of the Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee in Hong Kong. Dr Wong has been invited to present in many local and overseas conferences and meetings. She has published in a number of library science journals. Her current major research interests include students’ behaviours in use of information, information literacy assessment and instruction, library as learning space, and copyright.
She obtained her Bachelor of Science, Postgraduate Certificate in Education (with Distinction) and Advanced Diploma in Education from The University of Hong Kong. She was awarded the Li Po Chun Charitable Trust Fund Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship for pursuing a Master of Arts in Library and Information Studies at University College London, and she received her doctoral degree in education from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. |

Provide library instruction and information skills workshops
Provide research support to staff and students
Develop training in how to make the best use of resources in your subject area
Participate in collection development and liaison activities with departments
Advise on the acquisition of appropriate subject resources to meet information needs
