The Oxford Companion to the Book defines e-book as: “An electronic book (also e-book, ebook, and digital book) is a text- and image-based publication in digital form produced on, published by, and readable on computers or other digital devices.” E-book can be the equivalent of a conventional printed book, or can also be born digital without any printed equivalent. E-books are usually read on dedicated e-book readers. Some e-books can also be read on PCs and smart phones.



While you are reading an e-book, you can search for a keyword in the text, or use a built-in dictionary to look up definitions, or highlighting, bookmarking and annotation. An e-book can be borrowed, downloaded and used immediately in 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the Library website. The production of e-books does not consume paper and ink, and also save library storage space.



The Growth of e-book Collection in the Library


The Library began to collect e-books in the early 2000s. E-books have been added significantly to our collections since 2005. The following statistics shows the growth of e-books in our Library:
