FEATURE STORY
READ@PolyU is a new campus-wide common reading programme where all participants would read the same book.
It is designed to help foster a reading culture across the University so as to equip students with a better means to engage in learning.
Following campus-wide consultation in the past months, a Programme Committee in charge of the planning and development of READ@PolyU has been successfully formed, with great support from Professor Walter Yuen, Vice President (Academic Development) as well as the Faculties and Schools. The Committee recommended that a pilot, targeting all full-time First Year Undergraduate Students, be conducted in the academic year 2011/12 with full implementation in 2012/13 for the double cohorts of 3-3-4 degree students, sub-degree students and foundation year students.
Among the 51 suggested titles on the common book, The Kite Runner by Dr. Khaled Hosseini was selected as the common book for the pilot programme. A free copy of the book will be distributed during Library Orientation in September 2011 to each PolyU full-time first-year undergraduate students.
Suggested reading engagements include READ with the President, READ with the Council Members, READ with the University Librarian, READ with the facilitators, film shows, peer discussion, and contest, etc. For more update on the programme, please visit http://www.lib.polyu.edu.hk/read/ or send us your suggestions to Ms Christina Chau, Committee Secretary at lbcwchau@inet.polyu.edu.hk.
