Introduction
The Multimedia Design Project aims to enhance the learning experience through multicultural interaction. International and local students will work in teams to produce videos related to Hong Kong culture and society. The project provides an opportunity to gain collaborative experience in today’s increasingly global environment and to learn valuable skills in multimedia production and presentation. The project would utilize the extensive resources of the University Library and also from web-based information sources.
Entry Criteria
International, Mainland and local students of PolyU.
Project Allowance
Teams will be allocated a project budget of maximum HK$2,000 per student for production cost.
Suggested Theme
Student teams will create video productions based on the following suggested themes:
- Hong Kong Culture (e.g., community, social life and customs)
- Hong Kong Heritage (e.g., architecture, traditional arts and crafts)
- Green Hong Kong – Environmental Sustainability
- The PolyU Library as the University Learning Hub
- Others – Students are recommended to focus on topics regarding multi-cultures and globalization
Team details
Applicants will form teams of 3-5 students from diverse backgrounds consisting of individuals from a variety of departments. Each team should include both international and local (including Mainland) students. Interested parties who are unable to form team are also welcome to apply. One professional instructor will teach the teams video production.
About 11 participating teams with 55 students will be recruited to produce short videos around 5 minutes. The best videos will be presented during PolyU International Week in 2013. Prize will be awarded for the best videos.
Training workshops and resource
Participants must complete 20-30 hours of workshops to learn basic skills in video production, and 15 hours of team tutoring during the project.
Teams will have access to a purpose-designed Library Multimedia Lab (LML) on the 3/F, the computer and video editing labs located within the School of Design, and Library resources required to complete the project. Resources, such as computer hardware, software and audio/video equipment, will be provided to the teams.
